I unboxed the GE "professional" exhaust hood and... It's a 110-pound MONSTER. Worse, unlike what GE assured us, it is designed to only exhaust vertically upward. I guess that's what professionals do, but when we mount it on an exterior wall, why on earth can't we exhaust straight through the wall?

This is the part of the project I hate, yet every project has these moments. Our measurements seemed to end up 1/2 inch too long on the window wall upper cabinets. The right-most cabinet door would hit the beam that was just cladded YESTERDAY. One proposed solution: lower everything (base cabinets would need to drop to keep clearance per code}. But, wait... Did we add the cladding OVER 1/2 inch of sheetrock? Yes, so we dismantle the cladding AND the extra sheetrock to fix the problem.

The buffet area cabinets required a great deal of scribing and trimming on their left sides to properly fit the corner. I re-installed the under-cabinet LED light fixture on the upper cabinet and restored the power.

The butler pantry cabinets have been mounted. The gap in the base cabinet is for the wine cooler.

Now, with the much smaller fixtures, I can locate two lights (at the labels "2" and "1") so that the pair will be centered over the window. I ran the wires accordingly.

The over-sink lighting problem is solved. I found these 3-inch LED fixtures designed for remodeling work, meaning they fit right in the sheetrock. They don't require the large frames and so, can be located very close to the joists. 400 lumens each is a lot of light. And they'll last longer (26 years) than I will!

And while I was working on the recessed lights I found where somebody must have thought they were running a 3-inch drain through the joists. Now it's just a hole. Why on earth?

I get to re-mount the two recessed light fixtures in the reality of "just-move-the-window-to-the-left" kitchen. As luck would have it, the 12-in spaced engineered joists and the large recess fixtures can't be lined up in any acceptable way. The pair would be off-center no matter how I do it. Think hard...

A back-corner detail of the buffet lower cabinet shows really nice detail.

The sink area utilities are largely done. Sal the electrician relocated most of the wiring. I did the rough plumbing. Kris covered the walls with sheetrock and Hardiebacker. The Hardiebacker is in the potentially-wet sink area.

Rather than buy all-new insulation for the exterior wall, I decided to reuse the original fiberglass, but with a new polyethelene vapor barriar added. This should be better than the original.

My new plumbing vent complete. Tight fit, but I squeezed it in. Gluing the sections together in the right sequence was a little puzzle-like.

At last the window is fit into place. It is painstakingly adjusted for location, leveled and trued. It takes about an hour of nudging before everyone is satisfied that it is ready to be secured.

The framing for the window is nearly complete, and none too soon. It's cold.
