The chimney for this fireplace also contains the gas furnace flue. The copper caps were installed just a year ago.

Measurements inside the fireplace are a start. There is a convenient steel ash pit cover in the center.

The insert will require electrical power for lights, igniter and blower). Here is the new electrical circuit with cut-off switch.

The new electrical circuit uses BX armored cable and is routed up through the basement ash pit.

The ash pit door is closed and will be sealed with high-temperature caulk for fire safety reasons.

Upstairs, the BX cable is routed through the ash door and a 20 amp outlet is mounted on the back wall.
