Uh-oh. Our fire alarm gets triggered, probably by dust or an overheated saw blade, and the fire department responds. I hope that they don't send me a bill. This is our first false alarm. At least we now know that the system works.

Mario shows me how he plans to use crown moulding on the hatch. The telescoping ladder is already installed.

The attic hatch awaits installation of the access ladder (still in the box).

The full plan for the central, coffered part of the ceiling needs to be worked out.

The original design of the house had double doors on the master suite entry. They were left out at the time, apparently to save a few dollars. Ten years later, THEY'RE FINALLY HERE.

As it looks after the first go-around with joint compound on the sheetrock.

The sheetrock crew came in this morning. They cut and nailed up all the sheetrock in just two hours. It would have taken me days.

Time to take out the garbage? The lawn and neighborhood decorum have been innocent victims of the renovation. With the sheetrock work coming up next week, it's about time to clean up our earlier garbage.

With some help from inside, the sheets get pulled in just as the thunderstorm really gets underway. Phew! That was close!

I know that I measured this carefully, but from down here it starts to look like a very tight fit. There are a lot of thunderclaps and lightning flashes. Please don't let this get wet.

Up it goes. This is going to take some quick, but careful, maneuvering. I removed both of the window sashes earlier.

The truck with our sheetrock arrives, but rain is on the way. It has already taken 20 minutes to back the truck around the bend in the driveway. If the truck was 6 inches longer I don't think it would have made it. Now it is a race against the weather.

The insulation inspector arrived this morning and approved the work. We have the "Permission to Cover" with sheetrock.

That's a lot of framing and blocking in such a small part of the ceiling. The fiberglass installers were working in 97 degree heat in the room. It was easily 130 degrees in the attic space above the insulation, where they applied another layer. I haven't installed a powered gable vent in this section yet, but I soon will.

The sloped ceiling here is a nice touch. It could be a handy cable chase in the future.

There is a lot of 2X framing in the ceiling to support the coffer effects and the ceiling fan. The two air return ducts can be seen, as well as the relocated ceiling vent.

The insulation crew arrived during our heat wave and applied the R-38 fiberglass to the ceilings. The hanging yellow Romex is for cove lighting that will be added later. The white Romex in the center is for the ceiling fan.
