Ripping up the old cedar deck and railings was too easy, as it had suffered some rotting. The pressure-treated joists were in much better shape. Here, the ipe decking is already being screwed down.

I was impressed at how well the PT joists and the galvanized hangers had held up under the deck.

The crew built up the edge joists to allow for the picture frame decking design to come later.

These were the screws used on the decking. The ipe is so hard that quite a few drill and drive bits were used.
